For over a decade Janne Melkersson has held his unique shoemaking courses, which has gained a great reputation in the international shoemaking community. People from all over the world comes to the small village Hara by the shore of the lake Storsjön in the north of Sweden to learn the shoemaking craft. What’s special about Janne Melkersson’s courses compared to most other shoemaking courses around is that the student gets to learn the complete process of making a pair of bespoke shoes, and gets to keep both the lasts and can copy Janne’s patterns etc. Many students are starting to build shoes directly after visiting Janne, and several of them are now working as bespoke shoemakers.
One week course
The one week course is a five day intensive course in the basics of bespoke shoemaking. Included in the course is a pair of bespoke shoes, which is made during the week. As a student you follow Janne Melkersson’s work on the shoes from start to finish, and also gets to try several of the steps in the making. The process includes every part of the production: measuring, last making, pattern making, clicking, closing, lasting, making and finishing. The student also gets to keep the lasts made, and to make it as easy as possible for students to start making shoes on their own you get the possibility to order Janne Melkersson’s base lasts from the last maker, and you have the possibility to copy every pattern that Janne has for different models.
Two weeks course
Same as the one week course, but here you make two pairs of shoes. For the second pair, students also gets to try more of the steps and do more of the work themselves. You get a deeper knowledge and experience.
Both the one week course and the two weeks course can also be attended by those who already have experience, and Janne will adjust the courses accordingly.
One week course starts from 27 500 SEK, including a pair of hand welted bespoke shoes, bespoke shoe lasts, food and accommodation.
Two weeks course starts from 50 000 SEK, including two pairs of hand welted bespoke shoes, bespoke shoe lasts, food and accommodation.
